Description

ANFO is a free flowing mixture of porous prilled ammonium nitrate (AN) and fuel oil (FO), formulated to be oxygen balanced, for use in dry blastholes. It is the lowest cost bulk blasting agent available and delivers a good balance between heave and fragmentation energy. The white crystalline prills are usually colored lightly pink by adding a dye to the fuel oil.

Application

ANFO is suitable for use where blastholes are dry and will remain dry until firing. The loose poured density of ANFO is nominally 0.80 gm/cc (10.02 g/cc), and varies little from the top to bottom of even long columns of explosive.

Recommendations For Use

ANFO is readily desensitized by water, hence its use in wet blastholes is not recommended
ANFO can be used to any practical blasthole depth.

Priming and lnltlation .

ANFO it may be necessary to prime ANFO with packaged Powergel explosives. For specific recommendation please contact PEX Technical Services Engineers.
